The White House’s national security spokesperson, John Kirby, mentioned that the Biden administration is unsure whether the leaked information was a result of a breach or a hack, adding that there is no evidence at present of further documents being made public. Reports from the Associated Press suggested that U.S. officials are looking into the leaked information. On Tuesday, the FBI officially confirmed their investigation, stating they are collaborating closely with their partners in the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community, without providing additional details.
The documents in question are ascribed to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency. They outline Israel’s ongoing movements of military assets in preparation for a potential military action in response to Iran’s recent ballistic missile attack on October 1. These documents were accessible within the intelligence-sharing alliance known as the “Five Eyes,” consisting of the U.S., Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.
Designated as top secret, the documents initially surfaced online on Friday via the Telegram messaging app, spreading rapidly across Telegram channels popular among Iranians. The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the source and implications of the leaked information.
