A teenager in a cocaine-induced frenzy attempted to break into the home of an elderly couple, leaving them terrified as he stripped naked and posted his underwear through their letterbox. Lewis McShane, aged 19, also assaulted a police officer before being subdued. The shocking incident took place in Langloan Crescent in Coatbridge, where McShane exhibited aggressive behaviour towards the elderly couple in their 70s. The court heard that the couple called the police after McShane tried to force his way into their home while shouting and banging on doors in the early hours of the morning.
Despite the couple’s efforts to keep him out, McShane persisted in his attempts to enter the property, causing chaos and distress. The situation escalated when McShane removed his clothes and continued to act erratically, leading to his arrest by the authorities. In a disturbing turn of events, McShane assaulted a police officer by biting them, resulting in the officer requiring medical attention for injuries sustained during the altercation. Another officer was also subjected to abuse from McShane, highlighting the severity of the incident.
McShane, who pleaded guilty to charges of assault, public indecency, and threatening behaviour, appeared in Airdrie Sheriff Court where his lawyer emphasised the dangers of drug use, particularly cocaine. The court deferred sentencing for McShane to allow for further investigation into his background and circumstances. The shocking nature of the incident serves as a stark reminder of the impact of drug abuse on individuals and communities, urging for greater awareness and support for those struggling with addiction issues.
