We’re on the up for Ali’s Army

Dumfries fundraisers show support for beloved community nurse with Criffel climb

Tomorrow, a group of fundraisers from Dumfries will be embarking on a challenging climb up Criffel in support of Alison Hamilton, a dedicated community nurse who has touched the lives of many in the community. Alison, who battled bowel cancer a couple of years ago and inspired others with her positivity, has been dealt with the devastating news of a more progressive cancer diagnosis at the age of 52.

The news has not only shaken Alison and her husband, Simon, but also her family, colleagues, and friends. In a heartwarming gesture of solidarity, 30 colleagues from Dumfries North and Dumfries South Community Nursing teams, along with student nurses, friends, and family members, will be taking on the challenge of climbing Criffel, a 570m high hill with breathtaking views of the Solway coastline.

The climb, organized by Alison’s colleague Kirsty Brown, aims to raise funds to treat Alison to something special and memorable. The outpouring of support has been overwhelming, with a JustGiving page surpassing its initial target within 24 hours. Kirsty expressed the deep admiration and love everyone has for Alison, highlighting her resilience and compassion in the face of adversity.

The climbers will leave messages for Alison at the top of Criffel, symbolizing their unwavering support during her current battle. The community is grateful for the generosity of all who have donated and extends their thanks to Tesco Extra store at Cuckoo Bridge for providing refreshments for the climbers. They are hopeful that Alison will be able to join them at the car park upon their return.

Alison, a dedicated nurse for over a decade, has left a lasting impact on those she has cared for in Carlisle and Dumfries. Her selfless dedication to her patients and colleagues has earned her the admiration and respect of all who know her. Tomorrow’s climb up Criffel is a testament to the unity and strength of “Ali’s Army” as they stand by her side in this challenging time.

In conclusion, the community’s response to support Alison Hamilton in her time of need is truly heartwarming. The determination to show love and solidarity through actions speaks volumes about the bonds formed in times of adversity.
