A touching story has emerged of a Scottish son, Jay Kennedy, who shared a “love note from heaven” with his family before passing away from a brain tumour. At the age of 20, Jay was diagnosed with an incurable high-grade astrocytoma following symptoms such as seizures, headaches, and vomiting when he was 18 years old. Despite undergoing surgeries, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, Jay eventually succumbed to the disease with his family by his side.
In his final week, Jay repeatedly shared a series of numbers with his mother, Dawn Kennedy, who discovered they were the password to his phone. Upon unlocking his phone, Dawn found a document where Jay had been journaling since learning about his terminal condition. This journal, described by Dawn as a “love note from heaven,” has been a source of comfort for the family since Jay’s passing. It revealed Jay’s thoughts, feelings, and reflections as he navigated his illness and prepared his loved ones for his departure.
The journey began for Jay when he experienced a seizure while at university. Subsequent scans revealed a cancerous mass in his brain, leading to surgeries and treatments to manage the disease. Despite the family’s hopes, the cancer resurfaced in different locations, ultimately leading to Jay’s decision to write a journal for his family to find after his passing.
Dawn, deeply moved by Jay’s foresight and love, continues to share excerpts from his journal to raise awareness and honor his memory. She also keeps her own diary, finding strength and inspiration in her son’s words. The family has raised over £100,000 for various charities, including Brain Tumour Research, in Jay’s memory.
Ashley McWilliams, Community Development Manager at Brain Tumour Research, commended Jay’s resilience and love, acknowledging the impact of his journal on his family and the wider community. The fundraising efforts inspired by Jay’s legacy offer hope for the thousands affected by brain tumours each year, bringing them closer to finding a cure.
The story of Jay Kennedy serves as a poignant reminder of the power of love, resilience, and foresight in the face of adversity. His words continue to echo through his family’s lives, inspiring others to cherish each moment and find strength in the most challenging of circumstances.
