A five-year-old schoolgirl from Blantyre, Fearne Stewart, who is currently battling leukaemia, has collaborated with former Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho to create an inspiring poem. Fearne is one of five children in the UK selected to share their cancer experiences with Coelho for the Cancer Research UK project. The poem, titled “Courage Looks Like Me,” includes Fearne’s unique insights into courage, describing it as “the swoosh of a superhero” and “bouncy.” Fearne was chosen for this writing project after receiving a star award from Cancer Research UK earlier this year for her bravery in facing treatment since being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in April 2023.
