The issue was a focal point during a recent council meeting where Strathallan Conservative councillor Keith Allan voiced concerns about the reluctance of taxi drivers and fleet managers to transition to electric vehicles. Niall Moran from the council’s Transportation and Development Team acknowledged the difficulties posed by the rural nature of the area. He pointed out that while Dundee has successfully transitioned a significant portion of its taxi and private hire cars to electric, the higher mileage in rural areas presents a challenge.
Moran emphasised the importance of advancing vehicle technology to improve range and expanding charging infrastructure to reduce barriers to adoption. He stressed the council’s commitment to making a compelling case and supporting the trade in embracing electrification.
