Icy Waters of River Dee Await Brave Dumfries and Galloway New Year’s Day Revellers
Revellers in Dumfries and Galloway are gearing up to take a plunge into the icy waters of the River Dee on New Year’s Day. The annual Dee Dip, set to take place at Crossmichael at 11am, offers a refreshing start to 2025 and marks the beginning of the countdown to the event’s 40th anniversary in 2026.
Organised by Jim McLelland and his companions, the Dee Dip invites participants to join them in the chilly waters to shake off the remnants of their New Year’s Eve celebrations. Jim is also encouraging attendees to support a fundraising initiative for the staff at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.
In a recent fundraising effort named One Big Thank You, Jim undertook a 12-hour walk, jog, and run around Lochside Park in Castle Douglas, raising an impressive £26,000. He aims to continue his fundraising activities with the goal of reaching a total of £100,000. Jim embarked on this challenge in memory of his late wife Ruth, who passed away in the Alexandra Unit at DGRI last year. His first wife Diane also succumbed in the same unit at the former hospital in 1994.
