Three men have been charged with pyrotechnic offences following incidents in Edinburgh prior to the Edinburgh derby between Hibernian and Hearts on Boxing Day. The incidents took place in the Haymarket area and Russell Road, with a 17-year-old and 28-year-old charged with possession of pyrotechnics, and a 39-year-old charged with setting off pyrotechnics. Police Scotland officers are also investigating four pyrotechnic smoke devices that were set off within Tynecastle stadium during the game. Assistant Chief Constable Gary Ritchie emphasised the dangers of setting off pyrotechnics both on the street and within stadiums, highlighting the risks to vulnerable individuals. The police are working closely with football clubs to prevent fans from bringing pyrotechnics into grounds and ensuring the safety of all fans.
Ritchie urged anyone with information on individuals possessing or using pyrotechnics to contact Police Scotland. The three men charged are expected to appear in court at a later date.
