Tartan Army Chief Transforms Back Garden into a Spectacular Sports Bar
A devoted Tartan Army member has recently completed a remarkable five-year project to convert his back garden into an impressive sports bar. Chris ‘Gibbo’ Gibson, the founder of the North East Tartan Army in 2016, undertook the ambitious task to create a unique space for himself and his friends to gather and enjoy watching games. Situated in Maud, a quaint Aberdeenshire village with limited pubs, the group now has their very own Scotland-themed sports bar at Gibbo’s residence.
The 48-year-old builder initially conceived the idea of constructing a small shed during the pandemic-induced postponement of the 2020 Euros. After the completion of this year’s tournament, the project was finalised. Chris participated in Tennent’s ‘Race to Germany’ this summer, leading to the brewery installing a Tennent’s tap in the bar, known as ‘The Terrace’. The bar is adorned with Tartan Army memorabilia, a foosball table, and murals celebrating national team heroes.
Chris shared his excitement about the project, expressing his gratitude for Tennent’s support in fitting the tap. The bar now serves as a venue for North East Tartan Army meetings, charity events, and parties. Scotland legend Colin Hendry even joined the group on a 15-mile fundraising trek. Looking ahead, Chris is eager to host various events and gatherings at ‘The Terrace’. Reflecting on the journey of transforming his garden, he acknowledged that the initial shed idea expanded into a grand sports bar that cost around £4,000 to complete. With the help of joiner friends and a local graffiti artist, the bar now boasts intricate artwork and a beer garden.
