Body discovered on side of motorway, road closures in place during police investigation.
An unidentified body was found on the verge of a busy motorway, leading to road closures and a police investigation. The incident occurred near junctions five and six of the M1 motorway in Watford on a Monday afternoon. Authorities confirmed that the body belonged to a man and described the circumstances surrounding his death as “unexplained” at present.
The closure of a section of the motorway created disruptions for commuters, as both the southbound and northbound lanes were affected. The closure spanned several hours, causing delays of up to 90 minutes for drivers. Hertfordshire Police released a statement indicating that they were actively working to determine the cause of the man’s death and that investigations would continue.
Following thorough investigations and completion of police work, the southbound section of the motorway was reopened at 6.30pm, while the northbound section reopened shortly before 10pm. However, one lane of the northbound route remained closed. National Highways East shared updates on the situation, reporting that lane 1 of 3 remained closed as per the request of on-scene crews.
