**Brits Imagine the Future of the UK in 2045: From Social Media Bans to Robot Jobs**
A recent survey conducted by Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) asked 2,000 Brits to imagine what the United Kingdom would look like in 2045. While some past predictions, such as video calling, have come true, many futuristic notions from the 80s and 90s, like flying cars, have not materialised. However, Brits are hopeful and curious about what lies ahead.
In this forward-looking study, 61 percent of participants believe that life in 2045 will be unrecognisable compared to today. Nearly half, or 49 percent, anticipate a ban on social media for those under 16. Additionally, 37 percent predict the demise of terrestrial TV with the rise of streaming services, and 42 percent foresee teachers using AI to tailor learning plans for students. Virtual reality is also expected to revolutionise experiences, allowing people to attend events remotely.
Despite these anticipated changes, certain aspects of British culture are predicted to stay constant. For instance, 72 percent of respondents believe the nation’s obsession with discussing the weather will persist. Other enduring features include politicians continuing to lie (62 percent), people frequenting pubs (44 percent), and traditional British food staples like the Sunday Roast (43 percent) and a cup of tea (52 percent).
Moreover, respondents are firm in their conviction that TV presenter Claudia Winkleman will maintain her iconic fringe hairstyle, with 24 percent expressing confidence in this prediction. Technology is expected to undergo the most significant transformation, with 62 percent of Brits envisioning this sector as the most changed in the next two decades.
While 56 percent appreciate the technological advancements of the past 20 years, only a third of participants feel fully prepared to embrace future innovations. Opinions on the likelihood of AI passing the Turing Test vary, with 51 percent viewing it as a possibility and one-third believing it will definitely happen.
In sum, this study reflects the optimism and curiosity of Brits towards the future, with 64 percent expressing excitement and 46 percent anticipating a better world by 2045. As technology continues to evolve rapidly, only time will tell which predictions will come to fruition in shaping the UK’s landscape in the coming decades.
