Plans progress for sporting facility in Bothwell with £10k grant

Bothwell, UK – Plans are underway for a new sporting facility in Bothwell, as Bothwell Futures Community Trust has secured a £10,000 grant towards the project. The Trust aims to acquire the site in Wooddean Park through a Community Asset Transfer, with a focus on transforming the green space into a sports facility for the community. The South Lanarkshire Council’s Can Do Community Challenge Fund has awarded the Trust the grant to progress their plans and develop the project further.

Richard Mannering, a member of Bothwell Futures, expressed the trust’s vision for the project, stating that they are exploring the possibility of creating an all-weather sports facility at Wooddean Park. The goal is to provide an active play area for the village residents and to encourage community participation in sports activities throughout the year. The grant from the Can Do Fund has enabled the trust to establish a community-led working group and hire an architect to help refine the project proposal.

Councillor Lesley McDonald, chair of the council’s Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, commended the progress made by Bothwell Futures and expressed her delight at the Fund’s support for the community project. The Can Do Community Challenge Fund, which has now closed to new applications, offered grants of up to £10,000 to assist community organisations with revenue, capital funding, or a combination of both.

The initiative by Bothwell Futures Community Trust demonstrates a proactive approach to enhancing community spaces and promoting active lifestyles. With the support of the grant, the trust can move forward with their plans to create a valuable sports facility that will benefit the residents of Bothwell.

In conclusion, the efforts of Bothwell Futures Community Trust in securing funding and advancing their plans for a new sports facility in Wooddean Park are commendable. The project not only aims to revitalize green space but also promotes community engagement and physical activity. With the grant from the Can Do Community Challenge Fund, the trust is one step closer to realizing their vision of a vibrant sports facility for the Bothwell community.
