Around 300 properties in Dumfries and Galloway remain without power for the sixth consecutive day following the aftermath of Storm Eowyn. At its peak, more than 45,000 properties were affected by power outages due to the fierce winds exceeding 90mph on Friday. Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) engineers have been diligently working round the clock to rectify the issue. By Wednesday morning, the number of homes still disconnected stood at 303, with efforts ongoing to restore electricity to all affected properties.
SPEN’s CEO, Nicola Connelly, paid a visit to the region on Tuesday to oversee the progress made by the engineering teams. Connelly acknowledged the unwavering dedication shown by the engineers since the onset of the storm. She highlighted the collaborative effort involving resources from various regions and companies to expedite the restoration process. With over 99% of customers now reconnected, the focus remains on addressing the remaining faults, particularly within Dumfries & Galloway, where approximately 200 individual faults are being managed.
Connelly expressed gratitude towards customers for their patience and resilience throughout the challenging period. She reassured the community that SPEN is committed to restoring power to every affected property, despite the complexities posed by multiple faults on single circuits. The teams are persevering to resolve each issue methodically, ensuring a gradual but steady reconnection process.
In conclusion, the diligent efforts of SPEN engineers, coupled with support from across the country, have significantly reduced the number of properties without power in Dumfries and Galloway. The visit by CEO Nicola Connelly underscores the company’s commitment to restoring electricity to all affected customers and highlights the collaborative approach taken to overcome the aftermath of Storm Eowyn. Despite facing challenges such as nested faults, SPEN remains dedicated to the task at hand, working tirelessly until every customer has their power reinstated.
