Former Serviceman Raises Over £2,500 for Veterans’ Charity by Sleeping Rough
An ex-serviceman, Davy Marshall, from Newton Stewart, has gone above and beyond to support veterans in need. As a member of the local branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland, Davy decided to raise awareness and funds for homeless veterans by sleeping rough on the streets for four consecutive nights. His dedication paid off as he managed to raise an impressive sum of £2,850.16, surpassing his initial fundraising goal.
During his time living on the streets, Davy received overwhelming support from the generous people of Newton Stewart. Many locals, touched by his cause, donated money and offered warm meals to help him through the cold nights. Davy expressed his gratitude for the community’s kindness and shared how heartwarming it was to witness their unwavering support for veterans.
Despite facing challenges such as freezing weather and nocturnal disturbances from nearby lorries and rats, Davy remained committed to his mission. He highlighted the importance of shedding light on the harsh realities faced by homeless veterans and the urgent need for support from the community. Davy’s selfless act not only raised funds but also sparked conversations about the issues affecting veterans in the area.
To further support the cause, Davy has organised a fundraising evening featuring various acts at the Creebridge House Hotel. The event, named All Stars Tribute Show, promises entertainment and nostalgia while contributing to the charitable efforts. Tickets for the show are available for £15, with proceeds going towards veterans’ charities supported by the Royal British Legion Scotland.
